Sephora Play February 2017 Review

It’s February, which means love is inevitably in the air — and when it comes to this month’s Sephora Play box, we’re head over heels. Between the beautiful, pink satin bag to the amazing products inside, this could quite possibly be Sephora Play’s best box yet.

The Products

The theme for this month’s Sephora Play was “The Soft Side,” and the products included:

Elise’s Take

I am obsessed with the February 2017 Sephora Play box. I repeat: OBSESSED. Cue the Mariah Carey GIFs. Christine’s came in the mail first, and I swore that if I didn’t get the exact same products in my box, I would throw a literal fit. Luckily, the stars aligned and I did get the same products. Thank you, Sephora Gods!

I’ve been hearing nothing but good things about Clinique’s skincare products lately, so I was excited to try their new PepStart moisturizer — and even more excited when I realized it had ~*~MaGiCaL~*~ blurring powers. It’s like a moisturizer and a primer in one. It lives up to the hype, too — I have big pores and super oily skin, but it helps my makeup to actually stay on my face and look normal. I also already have this exact tiny bottle of Origins Eye Cream in my bathroom — it must’ve been from a previous Sephora sample (because they hand them out like it’s Christmas errday). And it’s legit. For people like Christine and me, who tend to have overactive tear glands, this is a miracle worker for the morning after a long sob sesh.

I would normally be annoyed at getting two lip products in one box, but I’ve been wanting a plumping lip gloss for literal years. And the NARS lip gloss is a beautiful subtle pink. And the best part? It’s MOISTURIZING. Five stars all around!

Also, can we talk about the amazing bag this month??? It’s pink satin. I’m literally in heaven with this month’s Sephora Play.

Christine’s Take

I feel like Sephora Play started out strong (my first month was AMAZING), then kind of sucked for a few months, and then finally got its shit together (thank god) — because the last few months have just been getting better and better. This month is no exception. My exact reaction when I opened the box was: *gasp* “this bag is BEAUTIFUL, omg”  — then, naturally, I proceeded to send a Snapchat to Elise showing her how beautiful it is.

I was scared to even open the bag, to be honest, for fear that the products wouldn’t live up to my expectations (because anything inside a bag like that should be nothing less than pure liquid gold). But alas, the products were almost as gasp-worthy as the bag.

I’ve never had a problem with under-eye bags or shadows before, but lately I’ve been noticing I look a little more exhausted than usual so I’ve been digging out old eye products to try to make myself look more alive — so needless to say, I am stoked to get to try Origin’s refreshing eye cream (mostly because Elise won’t shut up about how awesome it is). I’ve always been a fan of Clinique’s face products, so I’m hoping this moisturizer is as great as I hope it will be — plus it’s super convenient to receive another makeup primer since I’ve been using the Caudalie moisturizer I got in last month’s box and I’m almost out! Thanks for re-upping my stash, Sephora.

I’m a lipstick addict, so I was happy to see two lip products in this box — but I’ll admit I was slightly disappointed to see that one of them was a plumping product. I’ve never enjoyed the tingly feeling/bordering on burning sensation that comes with lip-plumping products (even though my thin lips could surely benefit from them), so I typically try to steer clear of them. This Too Faced gloss isn’t as bad as some, but it probably won’t be a product I wear on a regular basis. The NARS gloss, on the other hand, is amazing — the color, the texture, everything — so I guess that makes up for it.

Really the only true complaint I have about this month’s Sephora Play is the perfume. Typically, between the two of us, I’m the one with better luck when it comes to perfume samples — but I guess my luck has run out because this month’s was 100% a bust.

Sephora Play February 2017 Total Value: $34.25

As usual, the overall value of the box is pretty awesome for a $10 box. This is my favorite part of being a Sephora Play subscriber — getting to try quality, deluxe product samples on a discount budget. Even when I don’t love everything in each month’s box, the value always makes the cost way more than worth it.

The Verdict: Is Sephora Play Worth It?

I think it’s safe to say this is a unanimous YES. We’ve both gotten a couple of not-so-great boxes in the past, but this knocks everything out of the water. Keep on doing what you’re doing, Sephora Play, because you’re definitely onto something here.
