When lockdowns became our new normal a little while back, many of us opted to ditch our gym memberships in favor of more convenient at-home workouts. Now, it looks like what we thought was a short-term trend is here to stay for the long haul. But how can you ensure you’re making the most of the space available to you in order to boost your workout productivity? In this guide, we take a look at how to set up the perfect exercise space in your home or temporary office.

Consider Space For A Screen

If you’re someone who would rather work out in the comfort of your own home than step foot in a gym, chances are, you’re partial to a virtual workout video.

Consider installing a screen as the focal point of your exercise space to have the guided class experience at home. You’ll want to invest in a screen that you can see from a meter or two away so that you can work out with ease (and ensure that you don’t miss any steps).

You could even boost your workouts by incorporating a VR headset into your exercise routine and experience sport with such a thrill that you might wonder if you’ll ever need to leave your home studio again.

Make Your Space Versatile

One pro of exercising in your own space is that you likely don’t have all the bulky machinery that you would find in a gym. You might feel that this is something your space lacks, but in fact, it just makes your room that much more versatile.

Consider purchasing some large storage boxes that match the style of your room, or free up some cupboard space if possible. Use them to store exercise mats and dumbbells in order to transform your room into a functional workspace instantly. Don’t forget that while you’re working out, you can use them to securely store your laptop or other personal items, as well.

Choose Somewhere Light

There’s a reason Pilates in the park is popular. Daylight makes us feel good, so it goes without saying that you should try to get as much natural light as possible into your exercise space. It will help you to feel more awake, and in turn boost your energy levels – essentially helping you to get a whole lot more out of your workout.

Incorporate A Snack Corner

As we all know, it’s important to refuel after any strenuous exercise. As you would find in any gym, consider setting up a place where you can have access to fresh water – a mini fridge or water dispenser would work well. Set aside a box for protein snacks, or display a bowl of fresh fruit that will not only aid your workouts but add to the zen feel of your space.

Once you’ve set up the basics, you can really adapt your space to suit your exercise needs in any way that you like. The beauty of having this perfect exercise space at home or in your temporary office is that there are no rules, and it’s yours to create and to do with as you wish – whether you’re after a vibe sure to get you pumped, or the easy-going energy conducive of a serene yoga studio.
