I recently adopted the cutest little Russian Blue cat ever, Laz, and although I’ve always believed that cats don’t need toys — they’re the most self-sufficient animals on the planet and are completely satisfied batting around a hairband for hours on end — I can’t help but spoil my little furbaby.

So I searched for the perfect cat subscription box and decided to give KitNipBox a try. KitNipBox has two monthly subscription box options: The Happy Cat KitNipBox is $19.99 and includes several toys and treats for one cat, while The Multi-Cat KitNipBox is $29.99 and provides toys and treats for several cats. I chose the Happy Cat KitNipBox because it’s just me and Laz.

The Products

The theme of our first KitNipBox was “At the Movies,” which is such a cute idea because Laz and I spend a lot of time with Netflix. The products included:

  • Handmade Movie Ticket: $5 value
  • Safemade Popcorn: $5 value
  • Marquee Kicker: $5 value
  • Safemade Catnip Wine Kicker: $6 value
  • LEAP Crinkle Geek Cat: $7 value

The box usually comes with cat toys and all-natural treats, but I’m super picky about what I let my cat eat, so I opted to only receive cat toys in my box. Laz’s favorite toy was a catnip-filled bottle of wine — and it was my favorite too, because now we can drink wine together (and it makes for some super cute pics).

The Value: $28

The value of this box comes to $28, so you’re definitely getting more than what you pay for — and the toys appear to be pretty high-quality. Laz, unlike any other cat I’ve ever known, has an insane amount of energy and loves to roughhouse with his toys — and they’ve held up extremely well.

Other than the wine kicker, his other favorite is the Safemade popcorn. I don’t know what it is about the fabric, but his nails get stuck in it and he flings it all around the apartment. He loves chasing it, and I love watching him have a blast.

The Verdict: Is KitNipBox Worth It?

I’m going to be honest here — I reached out to several cat subscription boxes about reviewing their boxes for Earn Spend Live, and KitNipBox was the only one I heard back from without having to physically stalk and harass. The others (I’m looking at you, Cat Lady Box and The Cat Kit), not so much. Customer service goes a long way with me (and I would assume the same for most crazy cat moms), so KitNipBox gets major points for that.

I will say that next time I’m going to opt for a box with the traditional treats. Five toys is a lot for one kitty, and he only really took to two of them. I can’t imagine how cluttered my apartment would be after a few months with a toys-only box.

Is KitNipBox worth it? I would say as long as I have a kitten who needs an outlet for his energy and aggression, getting a monthly box filled with toys he can bite and chew on (instead of me) is definitely worth it. Like most cat moms, I would do anything and spend any amount of money to see my furbaby happy — and I can honestly say KitNipBox has done just that.

But also, he is a cat after all — and the box alone keeps him entertained for hours.
