Earn Spend Live came to be when a Finance editor sat down with a Careers editor and decided we had a lot in common. We’re both professionals in our twenties, learning how to manage our work responsibilities and make smart(ish) financial decisions, all while trying to remember to fold our laundry. Being an adult is hard, but we want to make it easier.
As professional twentysomethings, we know we don’t have it all figured out – so we wanted to create a space where other twentysomethings (like you!) can come to get direct and to-the-point advice on climbing up the career ladder, setting yourself up for financial success, and still making time to veg out on the couch with a good movie. Earn Spend Live is our place to bring you first-person accounts of what it really takes to make it.
I don’t want to read financial advice from some schmoozey dude I wouldn’t trust to watch my dogs, and you don’t either. Since I’m not a 47-year-old investment banker, I don’t know everything there is to know about finance, but what I don’t know, I know where to look to find the answer.
In short, I promise I’ll never tell you to cut your Netflix subscription to save a few bucks, but I might tell you to turn off your cable. Personal finance is all about compromise. Life can’t be all about the serious things, so when I’m not writing or reading about personal finance, I hang out with my dogs, practice some yoga, or catch up on my favorite TV shows.
I have an online shopping addiction and no filter. I’m an expert on a few things, like leopard print, Sailor Moon, and anything and everything Hollywood-related, and I would much rather watch an entire 10 hours of Keeping Up With the Kardashians than make a 10-year plan (or even a 5-year, TBH). But I’m also an aspiring boss bitch with a serious case of RBF. As Careers Editor, I have a dream, and it features chic blazers, Sugar Paper planners, and 50 shades of pink colored-coded Google Spreadsheets.
I don’t have life 100% figured out, but I have a lot of fun learning (and laughing at myself) as I go. To quote my favorite movie High School Musical, we’re all in this together.
