Finding the best career for you is a tricky business. Not everyone knows what career to pursue and what they wish to do for the rest of their lives! College is the first step towards finding out what works best for you.

Once you figure it out, you can then find many career opportunities on Jooble that include recommendations from your field of study. You can use your qualifications to get yourself ahead in the application department, thanks to Jooble’s sign-up process.

Before you get started on job applications, let us take a look into what you should do to start your career-seeking journey.

Take a Look at Yourself

The first thing you should get started on is figuring out what you are good at. Is there anything in particular that gives you joy just from doing it? One of the best parts about doing a job you love is that it will feel less like a chore when performing.

This could start from a passion of yours. Something you may have started as a hobby but wish to turn into a fully-fledged career. It is important to play to your own strengths. If there is something you are good at in school, try to lean more toward that direction.

If you believe you don’t have any strengths to lean on, it doesn’t have to stop you from learning something new! Sometimes we never know what we are good at until we give it a try. There are lots of interests you can partake in. Some of which can be given a go at college itself. Lots of colleges have extracurricular activities you can participate.

Even if you are at college pursuing one career, you can always switch your course to try something else. A bit of research and a bit of courage can be the first major steps into pursuing the career of your dreams.

Where to Get Started

As mentioned earlier, clubs and societies are a good way to branch out your skills. It can be the quickest way to see what you are good at. You can begin by checking the brochures and information on these clubs. Your main focus is to see what kind of skills they entail. These will be the skills that you’ll learn and eventually apply to the workforce.

Again, you will have to give them a go first before making any initial impressions. You can sometimes take a look at something and decide if it isn’t for you. Other times, getting hands-on experience will provide a real conclusion.

Volunteer work is another good way to get that “hands-on” experience. This is a good way to provide excellent service to the community, as well as develop your own skills. There are many different kinds of volunteer work you can get involved in.

One of which includes building homes or doing physical labor. If you don’t mind the physicality of these tasks, this can give you plenty of career options that involve it. If you don’t mind working behind a desk or even organizing these events, this can grant you plenty of other skills to add to your repertoire.

Choosing a Degree

Once you believe you have the necessary skills and have found what you love, it’s time to choose your career. Gathering up your skills and condensing them is a good way to whittle down your choices.

For example, if you have good organizational skills and love taking on responsibility, a course related to business is great to start with. If you prefer physical activity and have a passion for sports, there are dozens of sport-related courses to sign up for.

Once you have started the course, do not feel constrained to simply follow that course all the way through. Quite often, many people start doubting what they have chosen. Once you have real experience in it, you may find it’s not working out as you expected.

Know that it is perfectly fine to switch courses to something else you may enjoy. A lot of colleges will allow this if you bring it up with the course leaders. Sometimes they may offer a “taster test” of sorts so that you don’t have to commit to one course. Try it out and see how you really feel.

Speak to Professionals

Confusion about what to choose can be difficult to sort out all by yourself. That is why you don’t have to go through it alone. There are many professionals in the business that you can speak to. Some of them may be directly involved with the degree you have chosen. Others are specialists who can help you decide on a degree beforehand.

These are people you can talk to online or through online websites. You can even organize face-to-face counseling, which can come from your school or career specialist offices.

These people you speak to will run you through a few examples and will ask you a few questions. This will be based on whatever kind of work you have done in the past, no matter how long. It includes the extracurricular activities, clubs you have joined, volunteer work, part-time jobs, and more.

The career specialist can help you choose a degree that best encompasses your overall experience. They will then list a few suggestions and let you make the final decision. Here is a list of college recommendations that have the best guidance counselors for this matter:

  • University of Missouri
  • Boston College
  • University of Maryland
  • Seton Hall University

Becoming an Entrepreneur

If you are hoping to start your own business, this can be another great help in choosing a degree. A lot of colleges can offer help and support for budding entrepreneurs. It’s a lot easier to stay focused on your own passions if you can revolve a business around it.

Sometimes, running one can take multiple qualifications that you must take multiple courses for. As long as they all relate to your goal, the process of choosing them is still made faster.

Colleges can offer mentorship programs and advice centers for those that need more information on how to run a business. These can even involve internships at other companies so that you can eventually branch off on your own. Other times, it can be simple one-to-one interviews on how to start and progress.

This is similar to the counseling you will probably seek when getting advice to choose a career. This pathway can help you choose a college since you will need one that provides support for this particular route. If the college is more about finding careers for employers, you may wish to choose a different college.

Be sure to keep up to date on new information. There are always new degrees and courses being developed that can reach out to new careers. Even becoming an influencer has specialized college courses dedicated to it. The games industry itself is filled with many exciting opportunities. Social media has also become a real field of study.

If you wish to find a career that is dedicated more to the modern age, you will be happy to know that many colleges are more inclusive. Check out Jooble for examples of these new careers to find new passions to work towards.
