The biggest issue with beauty subscription boxes is that many of them are the same — Ipsy and Birchbox are very similar. In fact, I’ve received items in one and then a couple months later I’ll get the same product in the other.

It’s time for a refresher! Blushee Box is a company that hasn’t been around for very long but is already showing that it has the charisma to take on other beauty boxes.

About Blushee Box

Blushee Box arrives once a month with a variety of deluxe, full-size, or sample products from different companies. Four payment plans are available including a month to month for $35, three-month prepay for $102, six-month prepay for $198, and a one-year prepay for $384.

One of the biggest benefits of this box is that you can purchase another if you absolutely love the products to get some extras (or maybe even a box for your BFF!). The non-subscription box costs $30, which is lower than the monthly plan, although you will have to pay taxes as well as shipping and handling which could be more than the cost of just subscribing.

The Products

February is the month of love, so naturally, the theme of the box was “Crazy in Love.” Unlike other boxes, the samples in the Blushee Box ranged in sizes but were larger than most cheaper $10 beauty subscription boxes. The products arrived nicely wrapped in paper confetti to keep them from busting – which I appreciate since I’ve experienced damaged goods in the past with other boxes.

The products include:

Blushee Box delivered a wide variety of products, and some of them were even well-known brands like NARS, Nyx, CK, and Morphe. However, other products seemed more like fillers, like the iKate lashes, which were only a dollar value. I do have to note, though, that I’ve been subscribed to Ipsy and Birchbox and they’ve never sent lashes (even though I’ve wanted them), so it’s a great change of pace to get an item that you won’t typically get from other boxes.

The biggest issue I have with this box is that some of the items are discontinued (and some are even expired) — such as the Calvin Klein One Pure Color Lipstick and Nyx’s infamous powder blush. CK discontinued their cosmetic line in 2015, so if you were a fan of this lipstick, this might be the perfect box for you. Nyx’s powder blush was nixed for their HD Collection, but many colors didn’t make the transition – Dusty Rose being one.

One thing I absolutely love about this box is the card that comes along with the products. These are “Kendra’s Pro Tips” that let you know how to use the products to their maximum ability. Eyeshadow is something most of us are working on to get the perfect blend, and Kendra Adams (one of the founders of Blushee Box) explains how to get a softer look for your next date night. A detailed card like this is something I would love to see in my current subscription boxes.

Blushee Box February 2017 Box Value: $36.78

Considering this box costs $30+, the value is a little low. Since customers are spending more money per box than Ipsy and Birchbox, it’d be ideal if the value was a little higher. With that being said, you’re still saving money by purchasing Blushee Box if you want to try new products without paying full price — and you get larger sized samples than in other boxes.

Some of the value was impacted by the fact that a few of the products are difficult to find (since they are discontinued) and are now being sold on websites like Amazon, but for a box at this price point, the value should be at least double the value seen in $10 subscription boxes like Ipsy or Birchbox.

Due to the price, Blushee Box can easily be categorized as a “deluxe” beauty box subscription, which puts it into the ranks of GlossyBox and BoxyCharm. These boxes are $21 each and the value is consistently double to five times the price paid.

The Verdict: Is Blushee Box Worth It?

By subscribing, Blushee Box could potentially be a deal for newbie makeup fans. The brands are high-quality and favorites of many — but in the end, the overall value of the box and having discontinued products is a bit of a let-down. In future months, we hope to see Blushee overcome its rocky start to become a contender in the beauty subscription box world.
