Forget Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest binges. The next time you want to escape your life and responsibilities, check out these websites. They’re funny, interesting, random as all get out, and frankly, some of the best things to ever come to life in the web world. You can leave your thank you notes in the comments.

1. Betches

Attitude. Swear words. Satire. Edgy fashion. Celeb gossip. Betches is the perfect recipe for wasting time. Not to mention, its cutthroat commentary will make you feel like the nice girl in high school. It’s the betchy best friend we all need and love like a drug. It’s hard to escape the sharp words and wit.

Betches has it all, so you’ll find something that tickles your fancy easily. They cover politics, television, relationships, diet and fitness, and pretty much anything else you can think of. (My personal favorites are the advice column and the diet and fitness sections.) When you have a website with this much sass, you can cover anything you damn well please. Pardon my French.

2. Man Repeller

Want to know how Alice felt when she fell down the rabbit hole? Go to Man Repeller and you’ll understand. They cover everything: Fashion, first-hand accounts, debates, humor, relationships. You name it; they talk about it. So it’s an easy website to explore for hours without becoming bored because you never know what will pop up next.

Man Repeller isn’t like every other lifestyle/pop culture/beauty website out there. In fact, it’s more like the alt cousin everyone is a little scared of.  Aside from the randomness that hooks you like a fish, Man Repeller also has a “dick-shun-ary” page and a trivia page simply for kicks and giggles. Trust me, there’s nothing better than losing yourself in an onslaught of random information that you might not actually need, but can spout off in the bar to seem well-informed.

3. She Is Fierce!

Most websites focused on empowerment and inspiration bore me quickly. Not because they aren’t good, but because they seem to do the same thing over and over and over again. She Is Fierce! however, doesn’t. Sure, it covers the topics you would expect (self-confidence, career advice and encouragement, personal growth, etc.), but it does so in a relatable, fresh way. Reading the articles feels like receiving the most loving, uplifting pep talk from your best friend.

Female empowerment is something all women should feel strongly about. She Is Fierce! doesn’t want to tear other women down; the website just wants to encourage all women to live happy, fulfilling lives. If you need a site to encourage you through a difficult time or decision, or simply to add some positivity to a rough day, then take an hour to peruse through She Is Fierce!. You’ll have no trouble finding just what you need.

4. Baby Animal Cams

Pair Baby Animal Cams with your favorite glass of wine and sweats for maximum results.

Okay, so it’s not a website full of inspiration, news, or first-hand stories. You won’t find eyeliner tutorials or in-depth recaps of the presidential debates. You will, however, find a plethora of heart-warming, organ-melting, aww-inducing videos. Honestly, who doesn’t want to watch sweet, little fluff-muffins for hours?

If you’re having a bad day, then watch a video of baby otters. If you need a good laugh, then a video of puppies romping around will do the trick. The only downside I’ve found so far is that you’ll be overwhelmed with the need for your own furry companion, and likely run out to the nearest animal shelter. Then again, that’s not much of a downside at all. Remember: It’s okay to take a break from building your empire in favor of some mindless fun every now and then.

5. Greatist

Looking for a place to find all kinds of information related to exercise, diet, and general wellness? Greatist is a one-stop shop. They cover healthy recipes, tips for running, gear recommendations, and in-depth articles about improving your health, among everything else you could possibly need to know to you better mind and body.

You’re probably thinking there’s no way you’d spend hours perusing through the site, but I’m here to tell you that it’s entirely possible if you have an interest in healthy living. Greatist is the only health site out there that blends scientific information with personable articles and a connection to the real world. You won’t find a bunch of doctor summaries or fitness personas here. Instead, you’ll read articles from people who also have an interest in living healthy lives in the real world.

The next time you need to spend an hour (or two or three) bingeing on the internet so you can avoid the real world, go for one (or all) of these. The best part is that you’ll still learn some valuable information about the world and life even though it will feel like you’re just lazing around on your couch.
