After reading the Stitch Fix reviews on our website, I was psyched to hear that there is now a Stitch Fix plus size box. For $20 per month, you can choose sizes up to 3X or 24W, including maternity and petite. Because a personal stylist can cost as much as $100 per hour, I jumped at the chance to have someone dress me based on my preferences, practically for free.
The Process
I realized it was time to update my wardrobe since I graduated college. I went through my closet and cleaned it out, but it didn’t leave that many professional outfits. Sure, I could hit up my local shops, but they stress me out — like a lot. There are too many options, I feel like nothing looks good on me, and I end up defaulting back to what I’m comfortable in: Jeans and a t-shirt. The Stitch Fix plus size box gives me the opportunity to wear something work-worthy without having to step out of my house.
Much like Dia & Co, Stitch Fix requires you to pay a $20 “styling fee” for any Fix you receive. The personal styling fee is used toward any item you purchase from the box, and if you decide to buy everything in your Fix, you get a 25% discount.
Stitch Fix wants to make sure they send clothing that you’ll love, so I had to fill out an extensive style profile when I signed up to receive my first Stitch Fix plus size box. In the profile, you list your size chart for every garment (including shoes), fit and cut, price, and more. It’s incredibly in-depth, which I love since I can be picky with my clothing style. I don’t like showing off my arms, I like long shirts, and I detest tight-fitting clothing.
Once the box arrives, you only have three days to try on the garments, decide what you want to keep and send the rest back. That part was a huge disappointment for me. You’re spending around $300 for each Fix, so it’d be nice if there were a little extra time to decide. However, Stitch Fix stresses that if you need extra time, you can contact them. So I did, and it was a painless process.

The clothing I received in my first Stitch Fix plus size box was wrapped beautifully, and I’d love to say it felt like my birthday — but there was one huge issue: I felt like the stylist didn’t listen to my style profile. When I filled out my profile, I specifically said I didn’t like showing off my arms, and longer tops were preferable. Unfortunately, I got a sleeveless top, and both tops were pretty short.
That isn’t to say that I didn’t love anything from this box. The skinny jeans were amazing and incredibly comfortable. They were some of the softest jeans I’d ever tried on. The jacket instantly stole my heart since it was my favorite color and my style. I liked the purse as well, but I would have preferred a more neutral color.
The Value: $346 Retail ($259.50 With Discount)
I can’t complain too much about the price of each garment. The jacket had an amazing price, especially since I have one just like it that cost me $150. Had I found this one first, it’d definitely be my favorite. Every garment felt high quality, had great stitching, and I’m confident to say that everything would last a few years.
The conflict I had is that the clothing I received in my first Stitch Fix plus size box just didn’t fit my style well enough. The jacket was my favorite item, and I already have one very similar, so I couldn’t bring myself to purchase it. After consideration, I decided to send every item back.
Stitch Fix is a lot like any other customizable service where you can rate and review the clothing you send back, so you get something better next time. I feel as though if I ordered another Stitch Fix plus size box, the attire would fit my style much better than the first one. The customer service is fantastic, so the comments would help curate the perfect outfit in a box.
The Verdict: Is Stitch Fix Plus Size Worth It?
In the end, I hate going shopping more than I hate losing $20. I didn’t love everything in my Stitch Fix plus size box, but I know a few reviews and comments can help my stylist pick the right garments a second time. What really makes the Stitch Fix plus size box worth it for me is the quality of the clothing. I didn’t question the price of any piece. I knew they would last years if I had purchased them.
Another reason I like the Stitch Fix plus size box was the possibility to get shoes and accessories, which is another place that my wardrobe is severely lacking. Stitch Fix is one of the few clothing subscription boxes that sends you more than just clothes, and anyone who’s gone shopping knows that a good accessory and shoe can make or break an outfit.
Even though I didn’t love this Fix, I’d definitely try the Stitch Fix plus size box again because you just can’t beat good quality clothing.
