We have some amazing women in tech today: Meg Whitman, CEO of Hewlett-Packard, Sheryl Sandberg, COO of Facebook, and Ruth Porat, CFO of Alphabet (aka Google) to name a few. They’re inspirational role models and undeniably successful, but sadly, they’re still also undeniably a minority in their field. For example, although women make up 56% of the professional workforce, they only make up 30% of the tech industry. And of that 30%, only half of them are in technical roles.
It’s been proven that diversity inspires innovation and drives growth. Gender balance is an important part of diversity, so why aren’t there more women in tech? Although more and more women are breaking into the tech industry, there’s still quite a ways to go before it’s anywhere near diverse. Here’s a breakdown of where we stand today.
