Face masks are a fantastic way to treat yo’ self, but no one wants to spend money on a gimmick. As an avid lover of face masks, I’ve tried more than I can count. If you want a face that is fresh and smooth, one of these could be the best face mask for you.

Best Face Mask for Dry Skin: Tata Harper 100% Natural Resurfacing Mask

best face mask

I got a sample of Tata Harper 100% Natural Resurfacing Mask from Sephora and fell in love instantly. The small sample I received was about half a tablespoon and lasted two uses, so it goes a long way. Both uses left my skin feeling fresh, smooth, and glowing.

I have extremely dry skin, and if I don’t use a resurfacing mask, my cheeks look like a wasteland under my primer and foundation. The process only requires five minutes to use, and the short duration allows me to use this face mask for dry skin in the shower. I can put it on in the beginning and wash it off about halfway through, and my face will feel tight but smooth. Not to mention, the resurfacing mask decreases the appearance of pores.

The only downside to the Tata Harper 100% Natural Resurfacing Mask is that it’s a little expensive, but I’d say it’s worth the price point. It lasts a while when used once a week, and I don’t mind paying a little extra for a mask that’s cruelty-free and vegan-friendly. Natural face masks are the way to go, and this is easily the best face mask for dry skin.

Best Natural Face Mask: REN Glycol Lactic Radiance Renewal Mask

best face mask

REN Glycol Lactic Radiance Renewal Mask might be the best face mask for you — it’s a cocktail of four acids including glycolic acid, lactic acid, citric acid, and tartaric acid. At first, I was scared after hearing the words “acid peel,” but once I researched a little, I found that it’s a natural face mask and the acids come from pineapples, passion fruit, lemons, and grapes.

This face mask lifts dead skin and resurfaces to leave behind a firm but smooth texture. After a single use, my face looked fantastic and photo ready. Since this face mask only takes 10 minutes to use, it’s the best face mask for shower use.

It’s also one of the best face masks for acne because glycolic acid is a natural exfoliant, which helps remove dead skin cells and prevent clogging. It tingles when you put it on, which scared me at first since I was sure my skin would be red. However, after I removed the gel, my skin tone was actually more even than it had been before.

I wouldn’t go as far to say that I have acne issues, but I would say that the oil in my t-zone creates blemishes. The REN Glycol Lactic Radiance Renewal Mask is an excellent mask for oily skin. After using, I felt good enough to leave the house without foundation, which is rare for me because I wear my Smashbox Foundation religiously.

Best Face Mask for Oily Skin: Origins Clear Improvement Active Charcoal Mask

best face mask

Charcoal masks have blown up in popularity over the last year, and I was more than happy to jump on board. After using the Frothy Face Wash for a while, I put my full trust in Origins Clear Improvement Active Charcoal Mask. It beats putting active charcoal and Elmer’s Glue on my face, am I right?

This mask is an ultra-purifying mask that is designed to give you a deep clean while reducing the appearance of pores. I’m always looking for the best face mask to reduce pore size due to the huge pores on my nose. This is one of the best face masks for oily skin that I could find that manages to hydrate your face at the same time.

The product was a little strange since it didn’t turn gray after 20 minutes like most charcoal masks, and it also felt a little tingly. I used it for the allotted amount of time and washed it off to instantly notice a difference. There was only one issue: my skin turned red. After some research, I found that some people experienced this problem, but I was determined. I tried again for a shorter amount of time and got a smooth face without all the redness.

The Origins Clear Improvement Active Charcoal Mask is the best face mask for someone who has acne or oil issues. It’s also pretty inexpensive, even for the larger sizes.

Best Face Mask for Acne: derma e Purifying 2-in-1 Charcoal Mask

best face mask

I received a sample of derma e Purifying 2-in-1 Charcoal Mask in my Birchbox subscription and was more than happy to try it out as a professed face mask addict. I’m always on the search for that holy grail — the best face mask to beat all others.

This product is designed to exfoliate the skin using marine algae and activated charcoal. Since I wear makeup every day, my complexion can become a little dull by the end of the week, and I need the best face mask to remove dead cells and refresh my skin.

This purifying charcoal mask did what it claimed and left my skin feeling healthy and clean. It honestly felt like I had a spa day at a fraction of the cost. Not to mention, I could feel good about myself since the brand is a natural face mask that’s vegan and cruelty-free.

Since I have combination skin, I need something that hydrates without packing on oils and making my breakouts worse. Derma e Purifying 2-in-1 Charcoal Mask worked great to remove the excess oil without drying out my cheeks. It was sensitive on my skin, so it’s the best face mask for acne.

The mask itself reminded me a lot of the GlamGlow YouthMud mask, which is the “holy grail” best face mask for many people I know. After reading some of the reviews, I found out that I wasn’t the only one that thought this, so it’s easy to say that derma e Purifying 2-in-1 Charcoal Mask can be a cheap dupe for YouthMud — same results at half the price.

Best Hydrating Face Mask: Sephora Collection Face Mask – Lotus

best face mask

I’m always down for an inexpensive one-time use mask. While shopping at Sephora, I saw the store brand mask and shrugged. For only $6, I was willing to give it a shot. I grabbed the Lotus Face Mask that was designed to moisturize and soothe. My face had been feeling a little dry from windy, cold weather and I needed that extra boost. I didn’t have high hopes, but it was a bargain.

Well, I ate my words! This mask may very well be the best face mask for hydrating on the market.

First, the smell was heavenly and lasted through to the next day. Second, it left my skin feeling completely moisturized from forehead to chin without feeling greasy. Finally, it was easy. I put it on for 20 minutes and then just tossed it – no water needed. It’s perfect for a mid-week mask when all you want to do is veg out and watch Netflix.

The only downfall to this mask is that it’s a little messy. After opening the package, the fabric was hard to separate from the film. The extra moisturizing gel dripped from the bag and mask, but I just rubbed it on my hands and arms to get an all-over moisturizer.

For $6, Sephora’s Lotus Face Mask is without a doubt the best hydrating face mask. I felt hydrated and smelled like a botanical garden.
