It’s Cinco de Mayo time! Here’s how you can whip up a fun, successful Cinco de Mayo party at the last minute.

Step 1: Make the Margaritas

The most important part of any Cinco de Mayo party is the margaritas. Luckily, they’re incredibly easy to make. If you like, you can buy a sweet and sour mix to add to your tequila and triple sec, or you can go the fresh-squeezed route with this recipe.

Mix one ounce of tequila, ½ ounce of triple sec, and half of a squeeze lime in a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake, shake, shake. Then pour over a small glass filled with ice. To make frozen margaritas, simply add the above ingredients to a blender and blend until smooth. You can also add different fruits, like strawberries, mangos, and pineapple, if you want a different flavor.

Step 2: Cook Some Grub

You’ll want some food to eat after a margarita or two. Make sure you have salsa, queso, and guacamole to nibble on while the main dish cooks; otherwise, you’ll have some hungry party-goers. If you’re short on time, tacos and nachos are your best bet. Fajitas however, are truly festive if you have the time to whip up a delicious batch.

For dessert, go with flan. You can buy one or try your hand at cooking one from scratch. (Or you can make strawberry margaritas for dessert — no judgment here.)

Step 3: Get a Cinco de Mayo Playlist Going

You can make your own if you have the time (and musical knowledge), or you can take the easy route and choose a playlist from Spotify or Pandora. Personally, I say go with the pre-curated playlist so you have more time to devote to those margaritas.

Step 4: Decorate

Red, white, and green streamers, balloons, and other decor should be brought out in full force. Don’t forget to dust off those fun margarita glasses, too. The setting is an important part of any celebration, after all.

Step 5: Invite Some Friends, I Guess

It won’t be much fun to celebrate without a friend or several to toast to margaritas and dance with. Send out an invite, and make sure to let everyone know the drinks will flow and the food will fill. Hey, you can even make it a potluck if you want to!

And now you have a killer, quick Cinco de Mayo party. Enjoy!
